"Billy wrote a letter to the Ilium News Leader, it described the creatures from Tralfamadore." Prior to the discussion with my group I wrote, "They were simply able to give him insight to what was really going on." The other was according to the aliens when a person dies he only appears to die. I think that is satire and contradictions. If someone is dead they are dead, they aren't just living in a past life. It is obvious that he has serious mental issues but after discussing with my group this could be his way of coping with post traumatic stress disorder, and instead of aliens capturing him it was the Germans and that is just a way for him to cope.
What does, “So it goes...” mean to you? I noticed that after every death mentioned in the book the quote, “So it goes” would follow. I had no idea why it did, but after reading further i believe it is related to the aliens believing that no one is dead. Which can also relate to the quote I used in my original reflection, that when a person dies they only appear to die. I also noticed that he seemed to have no remorse for the deaths. Maybe because the Tralfamadorians got the idea in his head that are still alive. Even though the book does not say he has PTSD, I think this is also a way to help him cope with all the tragic deaths he witnessed.
Another thing I noticed, was that he seemed to keep pushing the idea that we are different from them, not him being different from us. When Billy and the Tralfamadorians talk about humans they use the word “earthling” as almost an insult. Since we can't see in the fourth dimension we are not as good as them. I think this could somewhat relate to how society overlooks those with mental disorders, because they can not understand them themselves.
