In the state of Kansas, Governor Sam Brownback signed a bill that would remove the need to have a permit to carry inside of the state of Kansas. However a permit would still be needed to carry outside the state. This bill is widely supported by the National Association for Gun Rights (NAGR). I personally think this is a needed change because the constitution says “...the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” This means there should be no limit on whether someone wants to carry a firearm or not. To me this is a basic right given to anyone who is an American citizen.
I think there should be more laws like this or even a national law stating that as American citizens you do not need a permit to carry a firearm, as it is a basic right established in our Constitution under the Bill of Rights. I think this because if more law abiding citizens were armed, then the national crime rate would drop significantly. Using the Aurora movie theater as an example, it was the only theater out of four in the city that didn’t allow the carrying of firearms and the furthest from his house. I believe that to be the reason that specific theater was targeted, if the Constitution was kept I believe that disaster could of been averted. Also in Chicago after they lifted the gun ban the murder rate dropped to a 56-year low, while the burglary rate dropped 20%, and motor theft has dropped 26%.
If more places followed in Kansas’s footsteps the country would be much safer. If more people carried then common sense would kick in and then crime could be averted.
I am not alone in my thinking. There is a whole lobbyist group on my side called the National Association for Gun Rights. They are also avid supporters of constitutional carry, the right to carry without permit. They believe the right to arm oneself is a basic unalienable right, that means a right that one cannot simply take away as so many Democrats are trying to do. In fact NAGR leads the grassroots lobbying effort outspending all other gun rights lobbying organizations almost on a 2-1 ratio.
So I ask if you were a criminal would you rob the defenseless sheep or the mighty wolf?
